Midwinter’s Eve Giveaway Hop

midwinters-eve-2-new-2016

Welcome to the 2016 Midwinter’s Eve Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

This is the time of year when lots of different traditions have a holiday. Today is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and a lot of holidays, stretching back to ancient traditions, celebrated this turning point in the year.

It is possible that even Stone Age people marked the solstice. This seems to have been one of the reasons behind the building of Stonehenge. On a tour there, one tour guide called the period when the great stone circle was built the “loony Neolithic”. This wasn’t so much in reference to those ancient beliefs as that the primitive hunter-gatherer society has to have devoted a LOT of relatively scarce resources for many, many years into building the site. It does make one wonder what they were thinking. But then, whoever comes after us millennia from now will probably look at our artifacts and wonder what we were thinking, too.

And if you’ve never read Motel of the Mysteries by David Macaulay, there’s a book that will make you think seriously about what future archaeologists will think of us. It will also make you at least chuckle a lot, if not laugh until your sides ache.

But back to the hop!

These long winter nights (and chilly days) are the perfect time to curl up with a good book and a sleepy kitty. (Cat optional for those who prefer other furry companions, or people! to warm their toes on).

This bloghop has mountains, snowdrifts even, of bookish prizes available. But before you check out the other stops on the hop, be sure to fill out the rafflecopter for a chance at the prize right here – the winner’s choice of a $10 Book or a $10 Gift Card.

  4. I have to wear fuzzy socks and sometimes have the heating blanket on too for my feat to be warm in winter.

  5. My feet are always cold so in the winter time I live in slippers. Thank you for the chance at the giveaway! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a safe and happy new years!

  6. I love my cozy socks. My family always gets me some new cozy socks for Christmas. I can’t wait to see what socks I get this Christmas.

  7. To be honest, socks don’t keep my feet warm for some weird reason. I usually tuck my feet in the crook of my knee and sit cross-legged for a while, lol.

  8. The cat has refused foot-warming duties since he prefers to sit on my chest. I therefore very reluctantly resort to socks, and also blankets and a heating pad if things get seriously cold.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

  9. I keep my feet warm on a chilly night by wearing socks & piling blankets on the foot of my bed. Thank you for the chance & Merry Christmas!

  10. If my feet are cold, I have to put on a pair of fuzzy socks. BUT I can only stand to wear the socks until my feet warm up….then must shed them immediately.

  11. I have fuzzy pink slipper boots that I wear when my feet get cold. They have Hello Kitty on them… lol

  12. We have heating pads in strategic locations all over the house, so if my feet are cold, there’s always one nearby.

  13. Yes, I have been known to go to bed with socks on. Recently, I’ve been wearing socks in conjunction with using Herbalix detox deodorant on my feet, so I’ve been sticking to cotton, but wool and other natural fibers like alpaca or even silk are great for keeping in the heat. Before bedtime, I sometimes layer socks and slippers, to make sure my toes are toasty *before* I jump into bed. it’s so much easier to keep your feet warm than to try and warm up feet that are already cold.

  14. Either my fuzzy socks or Dr Who Tardis blanket (sorry for dup if it happens my net blinked out and not sure if the first comment posted or not)

  15. Depends on who wins the fight. Dog or cat. Sometimes they compromise and both lay across my feet. If they are too offended. Then I have a nice pair of fleece lined booties. But I prefer the kids. That way I know where they are and what they are up to. They take turns encouraging the other to misdeeds.

  16. Put on socks, use a space heater, turn on the fireplace (if I’m downstairs), and more blankets, as needed.

  17. My favorite way to keep my feet warm on a cold night is a pair of really think and fuzzy socks. there is a brand called cabin socks I got at Dicks sporting goods and they are cute and great.

  18. While it might not be the most ~effective~ way of keeping my feet warm, I love it when I get into bed and am surprised to find a warm, sleepy little ball of fur– right about down where my feet are going to go! One of my [two] cats will sometimes just tuck himself right in, under all of the blankets. It’s always so adorable and funny to me. 🙂

  19. Usually i have to have 2 pair of socks on it gets super cold here , or i will sit by the heater to warm them up!!!

    thanks for the chance

  20. I wear my cosy, fuzzy socks and wrap up in a blanket. If my better half is home I will lay my feet in his lap which helps too.
    Thank you for this chance.

  21. I have some Heat Holder socks that are wonderful for keeping my tootsies warm.
    Thanks for the contest.

  22. Cats are often used as feet & leg warmers in this house. With 5 to choose from, we’re bound to find at least 1 cooperative kitty.

  23. Definitely stick them on my hubby’s very warm legs. 😉 if he’s not around then I guess I’ll settle for putting them under a blanket and in socks with a rice bag over them.

  24. My dogs love to lay on my feet. Fuzzy socks, slippers and a blanket work as well. Thank you.
