I have to keep reminding myself that this is two week’s worth of shelf-stacking, in the hopes that it will make me feel just a bit less overwhelmed, at least on the review side. What’s even more daunting is that I’m already scheduling into November. Where’s the summer gone, and why is it still hot outside?
But I can’t say enough good things about the Baen Free Library. One of the places where my husband’s and my reading addictions join is at space opera. A friend mentioned that the David Drake RCN series was good, and lo and behold, the first three ebooks are available free at Baen. (Of course, once they get you good and hooked, the other six books you have to buy. Think of it as a gateway drug. Baen definitely does)
Galen and I liked the sampling so much, we listened to the first book on our trip last week. Audible isn’t free, but we knew what we were getting into thanks to Baen. If you enjoy SF and/or fantasy, check them out. They will happily get you hooked on a lot of excellent series.

I like the Lt. Leary series by David Drake. We read With the Lightning this year in my SciFi Book Club and everyone like it. That is not always the case. Hope you enjoy the series too. I have Robin Owen’s new book, got it last week, but haven’t started it yet.

I LOVE Baen books! And yeah, love the free ones that give you a chance to sample the authors. Was happy to find Stark’s War by Hemry (Jack Campbell) there and his JAG in Space books. Really liked the Lost Fleet books. Will definitely check out Lightning!
I did some rare “stacking” myself with the Georgette Heyer birthday sale. There were a few titles that weren’t available last year, so I grabbed those. Sourcebooks puts her ebooks on sale the week of her birthday, which I also love. Last year, they were 1.99. 2.99 this year, but that’s better than 7.99!

Baen definitely knows what they’re doing, don’t they. Lightning had kind of a slow start for space opera, but once it got going, it really got going. And the audio was perfect for a long trip, even if we did have to pay for it.

Sorry! I enjoyed the books, though it was a bit weird going back into his writing timeline. LOVED the Lost Fleet books. I have also read one of his Stark books and have the others on my TBR.
I did read some reviews and several of them mentioned the slow start. It’s nice to know that and that the payoff is worth it. Thanks!
