Life’s a Beach Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Life’s a Beach Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

I think all readers have their secret list of “desert island” keeper books. You know the ones that I mean – the books that you would desperately want to have, to re-read over and over again, if you were marooned on a desert island. And we all think of ways to “cheat” on the numbers.

For example, if I could only have 10 books, would The Lord of the Rings count as 3 or 1? I would say one, because I have an edition where all three books are shoehorned into one gigantic volume. Would Harry Potter be 1 or 7? Would I want to take books I’ve already read and know I’ll love, or would I be willing to take one or two things that I haven’t read yet.

If they could count as a single book, it might be the perfect time to finally read Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time mega-book. I might even finish this time.

What about you? What would be on your “desert island keeper” bookshelf? Tell us your contenders for a chance at either a $10 Gift Card from Amazon or B&N, or international contestants, a $10 Book from the Book Depository.

  1. I’m counting the Alpha/Omega series by Patricia Briggs as one book and taking the whole series.

  2. I read through books so fast, I wouldn’t want just one book…..so if I am going to be reading the same book over and over again, I’m going to have to go with the Bible. I find something new everytime I read it, and I can’t imagine reading just one other book over again that I can finish in just a few hours. Also, if I’m stuck on a desert island, I’m going to be praying to be rescued!! Thank you for the opportunity to win!

  3. There are so many great reads on my wish list but being on an island I’d bring the whole Outlander series.

  4. New World Disorder by April Brookshire. Though it’s not been released yet.

  5. Don’t have one. I go through so many books and I always have a ton on my wishlist and on my kindle waiting to be read…

  6. I would choose the Eye of the World. I think I have read it at least 4 times.

  7. I mat be oblivious but that’s the first time I heard the expression “desert island” list.
I can only assume it means “books I abandoned”? If so, then… I honestly can’t remember. I tend to forget those books or come back to them and finish them (:

  8. The Oracle Glass by Judith Merkle Riley and Clockwork Princess By Cassandra Clare

  9. Jane Austen’s books (any and all – I love her!) – for wit and romance, P.G.Wodehouse – for laughs galore and Harry Potter – for angst and heroism, and the Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie books – for the whodunit fun. I’d probably sink under the weight of my Keep and TBR bookshelf weight, but I’d go down reading 🙂

  10. I’d love Can you Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella, as least I’d get some laughs stuck on the island

  11. The book on my “desert island” list is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

  12. I’d need the Bible and I guess the Hunger Games since those are the fiction books I’ve read most.

  13. Perhaps one of the Harry Potter’s… (3 or 7).. or one of the Mortal Instruments saga…

  14. For me it would be the Bible. There is no other book that would be important enough to re-read on a deserted island.

  15. I’m not sure what book I would take… maybe the Bible. I have many books I’d love to read, but finding the time with 2 kids is hard. If I was on an island alone, I could read all kinds of books! lol

  16. “Ender’s Game” – One of my favorite & first sci fi books 🙂

  17. I would definitely take the Harry Potter series (yes, I would count it as one) because I never get sick of reading that. Then I would probably take a series I have not read yet so I have something new, so perhaps Game of Thrones (that would last me a long time).

  18. i don’t have specifics but I’d go with historical or classic books!

  19. Right now it’s going to be Stephen King’s End of Watch, once it comes out 🙂

  20. Household Spanish. I’ll finally get the chance to really learn on the island.

  21. Would I only be able to take one??? Well, I guess it would have to be some sort of books with survival tips and info cause I’m sure I would need the help!

  22. Confessions of a Shopaholic is on my must read – the book was so much better than the movie

  23. Harry Potter as a favorite to reread and maybe the Pretty Little Liars series since I have yet to read those because I have been avoiding series with lots of books in them. The Bible and it’d also be smart to have a survival guide lol.

  24. Alas, Babylon would be the book I would take on my desert island.

  25. Any Stephen King book. I live near him- I haven’t read any books, but have seen the movies!

  26. I know this sounds stupid, but the Twilight Series. I have read it three times and still love it!

  27. Well, if we’re talking desert island it would need to be a long book so I would choose the complete works of William Shakespeare 🙂

  28. If series count, I’d go with Outlander, Temeraire, LOTR, or Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels. If I had to pick a single book, probably Persuasion.

  29. I’d pick the dark tower series by stephen king – it’s all one story so it counts!

  30. To be honest, I don’t usually read The Bible, but if I could only have one book and I was stranded all alone, I suppose it would bring me some comfort and it’s so Looong that it would take me at least a year to finish.

  31. Well, it wouldn’t be Twilight because they keep talking about THIRST! LOL

I’d probably choose the Bible. I still haven’t read it all the way through, so maybe I would on a deserted island!

  32. well if i could ever remember the name of the book would bring this book my grandmother gave me that was true stories of miracles. I loved the book but had to toss if after it got left out in the rain one night. now my grandma has passed and i have googled searched and cant come up with a name.

  33. My all time favorite book is Pride & Prejudice. I can read at any time and anywhere.

  34. I would take the Harry Potter series, even if I have to glue them together to make one book.

  35. The Twilight series – I’ve read it so many times and never get sick of it!

  36. I’d love to get “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo” except I’m not sure I’d need the skills it teaches on a desert island 😉

    Thanks for giving.

  37. Phenomenal: A Hesitant Adventurer’s Search for Wonder in the Natural World
    by Leigh Ann Henion
    Thanks for the contest.

  38. James Patterson’s and Mary Higgins Clark’s newest books. I’m a little behind on what recently came out but really like those authors.

  39. I like Lisa Gardner and Erica Spindler, their books are so mysterious.

  40. “The Secret Garden” by Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett, would be a great comfort to me if I was stranded. It is my favorite book.

  41. I would have to have some Stephen King books. My favorite would be The dark tower series.

  42. I would have to keep Harry Potter books with me! Definitely something that I can read over and over!

  43. The Shinning is crazy! I like that. The crazier the better. It’s like they did what?

  44. I would like to read Man of Mystery by Lorelei Moone very soon. It is my “Island” book of the month now.
