Stacking the Shelves

Another stack of irresistible (at least to me) books. I will say that August still seems a bit early to be even thinking of Xmas books, but I understand why they’re popping up.

Two books on this list I’m particularly happy to have gotten, Seven Stones to Stand or Fall and Terminal Alliance. And they couldn’t be more unalike. Seven Stones is a collection of Outlander short stories and novellas. I know that I’ve read at least one of the stories included in the collection, The Custom of the Army, and probably others. And it doesn’t matter. I’m happy to dip my toes into this world again.

On that other hand, Terminal Alliance is the first book in a new series by Jim C. Hines. I loved his Magic Ex Libris series, which was more-or-less urban fantasy. There wasn’t all that much urban, but it was set in a 20th-21st century where magic worked behind the scenes. Terminal Alliance is space opera, with more than a touch of gallows humor. It has to be gallows humor, because it’s about a spaceship crewed by zombie janitors who are trying to save the universe. Yes, you read that right. Zombie janitors. I can’t wait!
