Splash into Summer Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Splash into Summer Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

We’re between the unofficial start of Summer (Memorial Day) and the official meteorological start of Summer, the Summer solstice on June 21. To be really, really technical about it, 6:07 AM on 6/21/18. Not that I’ll be awake to see it.

And it doesn’t matter, because the Summer solstice will be the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Well, not really. All days are 24 hours, after all. But the day with the longest amount of daylight. Here in Atlanta, the sun will rise at 6:26 AM and not set until 8:49 PM. This is the time of year when I miss living in Anchorage, where the sun doesn’t really set on the solstice – it just sort of dips below the horizon for a couple of hours. Or at least that’s the way it seemed.

It will also be warm on the solstice. That’s one way of putting it. In Atlanta it will be probably be hotter than Hades, and muggy to boot. A good day to stay where its air conditioned and curl up with a good book and a sleepy kitty.

To help you curl up with a good book, or sunbathe with a good book, I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository. This giveaway is open to anyone within reach of the wonderful world-spanning folks at the Book Depository.

Have a fantastic summer!

  1. In summer I prefer to be outside with a good book, but inside is fine too! 🤷‍♀️😁

  2. Though I do enjoy the summer weather (I love to swim), I would have to choose indoors for a good read as I cannot make it without climate control for very long…Feeling too hot prevents me from thinking clearly, so summer weather could definitely be suboptimal for fully enjoying a good book! Thanks for generously participating in this giveaway for readers! Best — Kara S

  3. It depends on if I have shade or not and how the weather is – I love to be outside most times.

  4. I try to go outside and read as often as possible but sometimes the heats too much or the mosquitos enjoy me too much

  5. Assuming I’m still where I live, the answer is INSIDE. I think both me and the book would melt if we were outside for very long!

  6. I tend to read all the time. I think though I would love to be out doors but not directly in the sun.

  7. Outside unless it’s raining or over 90 … have to take advantage of the good weather

  8. I would rather be inside with a good book. It is really hot outside.

  9. “In the summer, would you rather be inside with a good book, or outside with a good book?” A small fish in a big pond. Oh, oops, sorry–inside with a good book, I guess.

  10. I would rather be inside in the air conditioning with a good book in the summer.

  11. Both. I love sitting outside with a good book as long as it is not too hot. Then I move inside and enjoy my air conditioning while reading.

  12. In the early part, I love being outside. By August it can be a bit humid, so tend to go inside more!

  13. For the first time in a decade I would rather be inside with a good book this summer than outside with a good book. Thank you for the chance to win. Have a great summer, however you choose to spend it.

  14. I would love to be inside in a screened porch, feet up with an ice tea reading a great book! Best of both worlds, protected from the sun, bugs and keeping cool with the fan on.

  15. If I’m at the beach, outside. Otherwise, inside. I don’t like to be sweaty and I hate bugs. Of course, if there’s a nice breeze, I’m great with outside.

  16. I love to read outside in the summer since I love being outside. It’s too cold to read or do pretty much anything outside in the winter which seems lasts around 9 months or longer here.

  17. I prefer to be outside with a good book in the summertime. But if it is too hot and/or humid, Inside with AC or fan makes for a more comfortable reading environment.

  18. I would rather be outside on the beach reading a book this summer season.
