Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop, hosted by yours truly, Reading Reality, and the Caffeinated Reviewer!

On the one hand, Black Friday isn’t quite what it used to be. It used to be THE semi-official start to the holiday shopping season – not that some frighteningly organized people didn’t get their shopping done well ahead of the season. With online shopping so convenient ALL THE TIME, one can hope that the madding crowds are a bit reduced. Certainly there are options that allow anyone so inclined (like moi) to avoid the proverbial Christmas rush altogether.

On that other hand, Black Friday got it’s name because that was the day when most retail stores began making a profit for the year, flipping their ledgers from red ink to black. I wonder if that part of the name still holds true?

One year we were in Vancouver, BC for Thanksgiving and the weekend after. It was very, very strange to see all the Black Friday sale signs in a place that did not have a Thanksgiving Thursday, as Canadians sensibly have their Thanksgiving holiday in October!

But here’s your chance to do a little shopping for yourself this Black Friday. Just answer the question in the rafflecopter for your chance at either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository to treat yourself or someone else.

  1. Thanks for the giveaway. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

I’ve been done for months (and everything online), but mostly because my list has gotten a lot shorter over the years as there are no more little ones to shop for.

  2. My family prefers gift cards. I shop while running my regular errands. I hate crowds & the shopping frenzy.

  3. I do both–I always start earlier to make sure I get the item and then have fun finding gifts throughout. Not shopping today though!

  4. I look at things and if I like any, I try to see if they’re on sale later (with enough discount). But here the discounts are negligible, tbh, so I’d rather avoid the crowds!

  5. I usually don’t start until after Thanksgiving. I do most of it online tho, so don’t have to worry too much about the crowds.

  6. We draw names during Thanksgiving so I don’t start shopping until the day after plus half our family birthdays fall in November and December so there is that, too. I do a lot of cyber shopping these days, but there are a few things I like to go to the store for at some point.

  7. A little of both. I can’t do the Black Friday thing in stores anymore. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

  8. I avoid the stores now until after the new year. I do all my shopping online… I can’t deal with the crowds. To much. Awesome giveaway. Thank’s!

  9. I shop all year round and keep gifts in my “store” (spare room). My challenge is getting them all wrapped and shipped on time!

  10. I usually shop way ahead and get it all done. This year I’ve been a bit slow so i’m doing a lot online. Thanks!

  11. I wish I was one of those people who had it together enough to start early, but sadly, that’s just not me.

  12. I shop ahead of time! I only have my mother left to buy for, but that is because I don’t know what to get her! ahh!

  13. I actually shop all year round, but mostly after Thanksgiving. I’m usually done by early December and do most of my shopping online. I do not like the crowds.

  14. Only a past couple years back, mostly online now. I don’t like wasting my time in line and the traffic at the mall is crazy. It’s better to go off season

  15. I start shopping early, but then during Black Friday my daughter and daughter in law loves to shop all day and all night, so I give them my list and they basically get everything in those couple days that I want. My patience will not let me shop like that since I have gotten older!!

  16. “Do you shop ahead for Xmas, or do you like to wait until the season and brave the crowds?” I shop way in advance because I want to get just the right thing for people.

  17. I shop ahead. Sometimes if I see something throughout the year I’ll buy it and put it away for Christmas.

  18. I shop ahead for Christmas as much as I can, but I always end up buying some things after the sales start!

  19. I love to shop early….but I think I spend more because I find goodies I think I need to get someone during December when I am already done shopping for them.

  20. I usually wait until the start of the season since that’s when all the bazaars and sales usually happen in our area.

  21. I usually do both shop ahead and wait until the season. Either way, I find myself doing more and more of my shopping on line.

  22. I’m doing both… If something inspires me ahead of time I buy it and then in December I buy everything I’m missing.

  23. To be honest, I plan to shop ahead every year, but always end up shopping the last minute. šŸ™‚

  24. We used to wait until December to start shopping, but this year we started in January because we wanted to do advent calendars for each kid that goes with their big present. Hopefully, I can do it again next year if it works out! I dislike the way some people behave during “Black Friday” and refuse to shop anywhere for that weekend.

  25. Do you shop ahead for Xmas, or do you like to wait until the season and brave the crowds?

i start shopping way in advanced,i cant stand the big crowds!!!

  26. I like to think about what I will get people a couple of months ahead of time, but I don’t usually buy anything until about a month before Christmas.

  27. I usually start shopping at the beginning of November but I am really running behind this year.

  28. Christmas shopping is an all year thing for me. I keep an eye and ear out all year round to find presents for those I love. I usually still have to go out last minute but its always somewhere in my mind to find Christmas presents!
