Return to Learn Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Return to Learn Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Mommy IslandThe Kids Did It and Zombie Parenting!

I have to say that I absolutely adore the cat-themed hop graphics that this group of organizers started using. They are all adorable, and remind me a LOT of our own cats. Freddie as a kitten looked a lot like this little fuzzball.

Howsomever, in this particular case I’m not sure how apropos the feline theme is. After all, we don’t train our cats, they train us! George is currently training Galen to run his and Hecate’s favorite toy by making a nuisance of himself on the kitchen table until Galen gets up and pushes the buttons to make it go. Meals have become a two-person operation as one of us has to guard the food while the other goes to start the toy. George is already on his second iteration of the toy – he broke the first one by playing with it a bit too enthusiastically.

This year’s return to learning is a special case for another reason, as schools -and parents – in the U.S. are caught on the horns of a particularly painful dilemma, whether their children should attend school in person, with all the risks of COVID19 contagion, or learn at home via distance learning, with all of the technological issue and educational pitfalls. I don’t envy them their choices. We seem to be in a time of no good answers, only questions, that has lasted far too long because too many people are unwilling to take the simple step of wearing a damn mask.

But this is a giveaway hop and not a soapbox. So, I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a book up to $10 in value from the Book Depository to one lucky winner. This giveaway is open to anywhere that the Book Depository ships!

  1. The first day of 8th grade was my 13th birthday. It was a nice memory to celebrate after the summer away from being with friends.

  2. We were poor so back to school wasn’t usually a good time but one year my mom got a lot of new kids clothes at an auction so I got to be the one to show my best friend my new clothes.

  3. I was always excited to get back to school and start a new year. No special memories except that kind of trepidatious excitement. Thanks.

  4. We never shopped for clothes since we had a uniform but a new backpack which I used for many years. It was called a school bag in those days.

  5. I don’t know if I have a favorite, but I loved going back to school when I was a kid and would countdown the days.

  6. My favorite back to school memory is when I was getting my classroom ready for my first full year of teaching. I scrubbed a lot of desks!

  7. Probably the time i walked into school after the summer and announced that i was “King of the School” and everyone had better bow down.

  8. My favorite was the first day of high school and looking around for my friends to see what fashion choices they made. We always wanted to look good that first day!

  9. My favorite back to school memory is seeing how everyone has grown and sharing summer stories and meeting new friends on the excitement of the first day back to school.

  10. I don’t know if I have a specific memory in mind, I just was always excited to see who my new teachers would be and if I had the same classes with my friends.

  11. It was when Mom & Dad took me and my sister school clothes shopping and dinner out. So exciting and then the first day back at school. Solo long ago 😊

  12. My favorite memory was my first day of high school. I wasn’t a fan of school until then and I was so happy that I loved it.

  13. I always loved back to school. We always purchased new clothes and new supplies. We had to work hard over the summer to have the money, but it was always worth it. My favorite year was 6th grade. My outfits were rad as they would have said. My mom also made me a couple of outfits that were really awesome. She was an excellent seamstress.

  14. I don’t really have any back to school memories. The only thing I do remember is that I started my senior year of high school at age 16, due to my birthday coming after the start of the school year.

  15. One year my stepmother bought me some very stylish clothes for back to school and I was excited and nervous to wear them, but they made me feel more confident going into junior high.

  16. My favorite school memory was in first grade and a snake got into the little school store and everyone was scared of it and I picked it up and threw it at the boys that always teased us girls and they started crying. Needless to say, I lost recess all week (it was a gardener snake) but it was so worth it.

  17. I started my education as the only kindergartener in my one room country school. All the older kids looked out for me.

  18. Growing up my mom always made back to school special! We had a special breakfast on that morning and she always had some fun surprises I didnt know about (cute/fun school supplies, clothes, shoes, etc) it made back to school so fun!

  19. I always enjoyed picking out my school supplies, getting a new lunch kit, and getting new clothes for the new school year.

  20. School was torture for me, so I have no favorite memories of back to school. I have lots of favorite memories of the last days of school!

  21. My favorite memory is probably being able to see my best friend on the first day of school. She would visit her dad the whole summer so I wouldn’t get to see her until the first day of school. It made going back to school exciting so that’s good!

  22. Well considering I really didn’t like going to school much less going back to school the only favorite back to school memories I have are getting to see my friends that didn’t live in the neighborhood.

  23. Seeing all the nice new supplies ! I always love the start of school with neat organized things and knowing they wont stay that way .
