Black Friday Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Black Friday Giveaway Hop, hosted by yours truly, Reading Reality, and the Caffeinated Reviewer!

This may not be the usual Black Friday – and it certainly may not have it’s usual salutary effect on retail business and its profit margins. Once upon a time – last year – the day after Thanksgiving marked the traditional opening of the holiday shopping season. As such, it was usually the day when retail stores tipped from the red – owing more money over the year than they made – to black – finally operating at a profit for the year.

While Black Friday this year won’t be what it normally is – or was – Cyber Monday is a thing that got really big very quickly but whose impact has faded more than a bit.

Once upon a time, most folks didn’t have high-speed internet in their homes but a LOT more people had it where they worked. Also, a fair number of people either had Black Friday off, or were working retail or were too busy over the holiday weekend whether visiting family or putting up decorations or whatever that they weren’t at work on Black Friday. But everybody who went back to the office on Monday spent at least some time sharing stories about how their Turkey Day went AND taking a bit of personal time at work – officially or otherwise – to shop for online bargains over their place of work’s high-speed internet.

So Cyber Monday got to be a thing. It’s not as big of a thing as it used to be.

Black Friday is also a bit of an odd day for blogging or pretty much anything normal – particularly for those still in a turkey coma or trying to figure out how to deal with all the leftovers from the day before. And so this hop was born.

We’re also going to do just a bit to help some retail businesses – here at Reading Reality at least some of the bookish ones. I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $15(US) gift card to either Amazon or the local bookstore of your choice, or $15(US) in books from the Book Depository. In order to do this there are just a couple of restrictions. For US entrants, the bookstore you choose needs to have an easy method for me to purchase your gift certificate online and get it sent to you. If you are outside the US, you need to be in a location that the Book Depository ships to (they don’t do Gift Certificates – maybe someday.)

  1. I’ve been looking at the online Black Friday deals but I haven’t found anything of interest – yet!

  2. I’m doing a bit of shopping, but mostly from local stores to help independent retailers that haven’t been faring well this year. This year, there are so many ways to help — for the first time, Black Friday shopping has been fun! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  3. I’ve already been doing some online shopping for holiday presents. I like that online deals started before Black Friday this year. And thanks for hosting another Black Friday Book Hop Giveaway event– it brings a little bit of festive fun in a not so fun year!

  4. No I do not have the money. This year has kicked our butts LOL I just hate that we even missed Thanksgiving.

  5. I decided to stay home this year, numbers are on the rise here in California. I got some great deals online and though !

  6. Not on your life, or rather, my life. I always get my shopping done super early so there’s no need to go near Black Friday.

  7. No, absolutely not! I have never been a Black Friday shopper, and definitely not this year. Wild horses couldn’t drag me out of my house today.

  8. I shopped during the year and am finishing online. My stress is getting them mailed on time.

  9. Just shopping online and letting my relatives knows that their gift will be delivered that way. 🙂

  10. Won’t be going out this year. It gets busy during this time usually, but I have never joined in with the shoppers.

  11. I never got into the Black Friday madness. I can’t stand the crowds and even though this year is different, I might just browse online.

  12. I almost never do in-person shopping, so nothing’s changed this year. I also plan to do less online shopping (no gifts for coworkers, for starters), but having been upping charitable giving to make up for it.

    Thanks for sponsoring this giveaway.

  13. I have never shopped on Black Friday nor do I ever plan on it! I don’t like shopping in crowds and do most of my shopping online!

  14. Not this year. To be honest I’m not a fan of participating in that kind of madness at all. LOL!!

  15. I’m thinking about it, but online only. I found a good deal on some seasons of Suits, and I’m debating whether I really really want them or not. Probably for so long that the offer will end before I decide anything 😛

  16. I did some shopping a few weeks ago to avoid the madness this weekend. I do have a couple of more gifts to get, but I will order them online within the next week or two.

  17. I didn’t do any shopping this Black Friday. Between lack of money and the virus I just didn’t want to go anywhere.

  18. I did not do Black Friday this year as I had to work and my 2 little girls were at home with me. Looking forward to Cyber Monday though!

  19. I will not be participating in the Black Friday madness this year. I’m staying home. Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. I did go out for a little bit on Friday and it was actually pretty dead everywhere. I typically am out there late Thursday night and all day but not this year.

  21. I’ve never done Black Friday in person because I hate crowds. This year- I am so overwhelmed by the emails and constant texts that I bought nothing.

  22. Oh my goodness no! In years past, I would keep the grandkids so their moms could get up before dawn and go shopping. I value my sleep.

  23. I’m more of a saver than a spender but I budget specifically for certain Black Friday bargains. I renewed my subscriptions for virtual workouts, Hulu and Ancestry for half off. I also purchased items that needed to be replaced.

  24. I didn’t do any shopping online on Thursday or Friday. Usually, I do. I guess I just didn’t find anything I really really wanted to buy. Saturday night I went to three stores and just bought stocking stuffers. I prefer to shop online. And, that was even before the pandemic.

  25. No, I just bought new knives online but I am done with christmas already so I dont have to go out.

  26. I didn’t do any in-person black friday shopping but I did pick up a few christmas presents online! Found some really good deals and was able to stay in my pajamas!:)
