Stacking the Shelves (507)

I had to go an look at the covers together before I could figure out anything to write about this week’s stack. Because seriously, this bunch couldn’t be more random if I’d tried. Which I didn’t.

The prettiest covers are The Terraformers and Violeta, although they aren’t pretty in remotely the same way. But still, temptingly pretty. The one I’m looking forward to the most is Untethered Sky, because Fonda Lee. Even though it’s not Jade City, I still can’t resist. If you’re surprised I’m not saying Encore in Death, that’s because as much as the In Death series are comfort reads for me, I do pretty much know what I’m going to get when I pick one up. If I didn’t, it wouldn’t be a comfort read. Fonda Lee, on the other hand, whatever I get will be both fascinating and unexpected.

  1. Some of those covers look SO good – but I try to limit myself to just one new TBR addition per visit….which one should it be? I really liked Jade City too, maybe I should go with Fonda Lee’s new one? I also like Naomi Novik….maybe that one? But the cover on The Mountain in the Sea pulls at me. Sigh. Great haul – happy reading.

    1. “Lead me not into temptation – I can find it myself!” I never managed just one new book a week even when I was buying them all. I always tell myself there are worse things to be addicted to, but I really admire your fortitude!

    1. Terraformers looks REALLY pretty – and interesting. I loved the first book in the Novik series but haven’t gotten a round tuit for the second book. I know I’ll get there eventually so I got the third. If the Novik looks good to you and you haven’t read the first book, A Deadly Education, you REALLY need to start there. I do have to say that the Scholomance makes Hogwarts look like a walk in the park.

  2. I’m still going through the list, but got excited about the new Cash Blackbear mystery. I listened to the first two and enjoyed them.

I’m also interested in the new Minette Walters. She’s an author I like, but I kinda have to be up to the challenge of reading her books.

      1. I think you’ll like the Cash Blackbear series. It’s set in the 70s with a Native American protagonist–very competent, so she checks that box for you. The first two books are available for free from the Audible Plus program, if you have that.

Walters really puts her characters (and readers) through the wringer. It’s typical for me to despise her books up until the final few chapters. I’ve learned to persevere because the payoff is usually (but not always) worth it.
