Apple A Day Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Apple a Giveaway Hop, hosted by Mama the Fox!

The last time I participated in this hop, back in 2020, I wondered whether the “apple a day” in the hop’s name referred to the old saying about “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” or if it was all about giving an apple to the teacher. Although teachers should be much better paid than just in apples, this year I’m pretty sure that it’s about that apple for the teacher, because the local schools are starting up this week.

Which still feels WAY too early. But then, I went to school in the Dark Ages. The buildings were old – my mother attended the same high school I did in mostly the same buildings – and they were, for the most part, NOT air conditioned. Summers in Cincinnati are fairly beastly, so students would have been dropping like flies if we’d been stuck inside those buildings in August. Now I’m sure they are all properly A/C’d, but I’m really happy that I don’t have to see the power bills for my old high school in the summer. It must be an expensive monster to cool – and yes, that old building is still in use.

No matter whether you are giving them to someone or keeping them all to yourself, apples are a marvelously tasty treat, whether you’re putting them in a pie or a cobbler, or just crunching down. (They’re great slathered with peanut butter!). But what’s your favorite kind of apple? When they’re available, I love Honeycrisps and Jonagolds. What about you?

Answer in the comments for your chance at one of Reading Reality’s usual prizes, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or $10 in books.

  1. My favorite apples are Galas. I usually just eat them out-of-hand, cut in half with the core removed, but I also love apple pie and other deserts made from apples. Thanks.

  2. My favorite apple is the McIntosh, and I do love apple crisp, apple fritters and apple pie. Thank you for participating in the Hop!

  3. I don’t know the official name, but I like the ones that are gold and have red spots. I like them sliced by themselves.

  4. I like all types of apples, mostly eat them baked or cooked in microwave. I have allergies to raw apple sometimes.

  5. I love honey crisp apples but I love apples covered in different goodies, my favorite one is the apple pie apple, so good

  6. I love apple and blackberry pie. My grandmother used to make the best apple and blackberry pie so it very much reminds me of her. Unfortunately, she’s no longer around to make it and she took her secret recipe to the grave.

  7. Honeycrisp (or Cosmic Crisp, if I can get them) are my favorite for plain eating. I like them sliced, and sometimes with a sprinkling of salt and/or balsamic vinegar.

(And, yes, I also grew up in the era of no AC in schools, even in the South. Also yes to educators being grossly underpaid.)

  8. My favorite variety of apple is the Pink Lady (also known as Cripps Pink). They are sweet and crunchy, a little juicy, and store extremely well. They are reddish in color with a bit of green.

  9. Honestly, I don’t think I really like apples. When I have pastries with apples, like a turnover, I don’t eat the apples. I like the crust or pastry and the apple juices.

  10. My favorite apple is the fuji apple, and I like them alone or with peanut butter!

Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  11. My favorite apple is a red delicious and I like to slice it and eat it that way. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!

  12. My favourite apple is the Granny Smith. Love to eat it plain, in a pie, in a cake, fritters, baked, sauce, pancakes….

  13. I personally prefer honeycrisp, but they can cost so much, we end up buying pink lady apples most of the time.

  14. I like to eat apples, like I do most of my fruit, as-is, which is simply why as nature’s candy it needs nothing more… but to simply take a bite.

  15. I love Honey Crisp apples they are so juicy and I’ve always been a big fan, and I like to eat plain or dip in peanut butter or caramel.

  16. That’s like choosing a favorite family member, I love so many! I can’t do it. Applesauce is most recent.

Thanks for the giveaway 🙂 !
