Old School Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Old School Giveaway Hop, hosted by Mama the Fox!

The term “Old School” is actually pretty old school itself. It was first used in 1749 and meant exactly what it means today, that someone or something is sticking to “traditional policies and practices” instead of whatever would have been “state-of-the-art” back in 1749.

But the older generation has ALWAYS complained about the younger generation. And I do mean always. There are quotes going back to Aristotle in the 4th century B.C.E. that prove that the older generation has ALWAYS thought the younger generation was on the road to perdition. Or Hades. Or wherever other than traditional, “old school”, productive adulthood.

“The more things change, the more they remain the same” – a quote that only goes back to 1849. Not nearly so old school, but still very apropos.

What’s the most “Old School” thing that you are hanging on to? For me it’s Classic Rock, which I listened to – on the radio OMG – when it was just Rock. What about you?

Answer in the rafflecopter for a chance at the usual prize around here, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or $10 in books.

  1. I would have to say that the most “old school” thing that I am hanging on to is my music, I still listen to songs from the 80’s and 90’s quite often and from the 60’s and 70’s occasionally. Hope that answers the question. Thank you for participating in the Hop!

  2. I still have my backpack from high school and I graduated back in the 90’s! We currenlty use it for the kids beach toys!

  3. During the pandemic I spent some time resurrecting my vinyl records and stereo system. I even bought reissues of a few records that I used to have that got lost. Very satisfying.

  4. I have a REALLY old vintage ornate looking rotary dial telephone! I keep it as a decoration!

  5. How about my hairdryer from when i started 9th grade. I’ve been out of school for 33 years now and it still works!

  6. I have held onto and still use my grandparents wedding gift from 1912 which is the pair of a white porcelain pitcher and large basin. Both are in my kitchen as breads and opened package goods go in the basin and flowers in the pitcher.

  7. I still have all my exercise books and notes from school. I kept them just in case they came in handy but of course, they haven’t come in handy and I’ve never actually used them for anything!

  8. I’ve still got a Macintosh SE on my dresser, but probably the oldest still in use is my iPod touch. I don’t know that I’ve got much old school still being used. I do still have my CD booklets from high school though!

  9. I used to have so many things that were old school but or house burned down a few years ago and we lost basically everything so I don’t have anything old school anymore.

  10. My mom kept my baby bonnets, now I have a daughter that wears them. They’re from the 80s.

  11. I guess mailing letters and care packages and thank you notes. It’s not really old school I just don’t know anyone who still does any of that so I feel like a weirdo sometimes lol and when I’m looking up ideas or supplies it’s always older articles I come across.

  12. I keep some old tools from my grand father and I wish I could save more of them when we moved from his house…

  13. I would say my roller skates from high school! They are still in great shape! haha! I can still skate and like to take my kids, so I still have them.

  14. All my old year books. It’s fun to bring them out and go through them every 5 or 10 years.

  15. The most old school thing I hang on to is the dress from the first pay I was in because it was hand made by my mom and grandmother.

  16. I still keep track of my appointments and do planning on an actual calendar. No phone keeping track for me.

  17. I have VHS tapes and photos of high school memories but if you mean old school thing than a cassette player.

  18. I’m old fashioned enough for that to be a tough question. I guess probably either my old time radio audio cassettes, or my Vhs tapes.

  19. I’m old enough to consider reading real books to be old school.
    Thanks for the contest

  20. I still have my Bee Gees album “Tragedy ” that I got for my 11th birthday in 1979! I also have my Childcraft set of books that my grandparents gave me when I was a baby in 1968.
