This hop drives me bonkers every single year. What’s a “GLIT”? If this hop were a summer thing, it might be “Glam and GRits” which would be a whole different kind of thing. It might also have been intended to be “GlitZ” which is kind of what I think it is. But the hop image says “GlitS” and here we are with another year of my brain going tilt.

Whether it’s GRITS or GLITZ or GLITS, or something else altogether, the giveaway is entirely real and very identifiable. I have to talk about the ‘glam’ of this hop rather than the ‘glits’ because I still don’t know what a glit is. Glitter? Glitz? Something along one of those lines, I imagine.

But glamor at least is a word I’m sure of. Isn’t it funny how the definition of what that means changes over the years? Or at least the official definition. I’m pretty sure that ‘glamorousness’ is still in the eye of the beholder – adjacent to but not exactly twinsies with beauty being in the eye of its beholder.

Your mileage may vary, whether it’s glamorous or not.

I have to admit that I keep seeing the image for this hop as a cookie – and that a cookie is way more relevant to my interests than either glam or glitz. My mom never went anywhere without “putting her face on”. I can’t remember the last time I wore makeup, I just know it was long before COVID. I just didn’t – at least in part because that would have meant getting up a few minutes earlier and that just wasn’t happening. Ever. At All.

I kept reading the name of this hop as “Glam and Gifts”, which also works. It’s all about the glam and the winner will get a gift!

But seriously, or semi-seriously, the idea of either glam or glitz is a lot of fun to daydream, but this past year and a half has been way more about comfort than glam – except between the pages of a good book, of course.

It’s been so long since I’ve thought much about either glam or glitz or even dressing up much. What about you? When you think of glam, or even glitz, what image does that conjure in your head?
