Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howl-o-ween Giveaway Hop, hosted by  The Mommy Island & The Kids Did It!

It’s that time of year, again. Fall is most definitely fell, and spooky season is on its way! The new neighbors front yard is already fully tricked out as a haunted graveyard!

There have been a whole bunch of September 30 vs. October 1 memes out there. Most of the ones I’ve seen feature the witches from Hocus Pocus, which I’ve never seen. (That’s probably some sort of sacrilege, I KNOW!) But since I have not seen that movie, here’s a similar themed meme that I most definitely have seen, and still love:

I love how the difference is in their attitudes instead of their costumes or appearance. They’re just so BORED with us all until Halloween season, and then WOW!

Although I remember the original Addams Family TV series, and it was a whole lot of fun, Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston as Gomez and Morticia in the 1990s movies (how time flies!) are still my favorites. What about you? What’s your favorite creepy, spooky or Halloween-themed book, TV series or movie? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at our usual giveaway prize, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or $10 in books.

Howloween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howloween Giveaway Hop, hosted by  The Mommy Island & The Kids Did It!

In keeping with that adorable gnome up there, here’s another cute image to put you in the mood for October and the Halloween (or Howloween!) season.

This boi looks very like my Lucifer, and he definitely looks ready for the season. Lucifer would probably be bundled up like this, too. He’d been living rough when we adopted him, about this time of year five years ago. He’s been very clear ever since on the fact that outside may look interesting but he has no desire to ever experience it first hand ever again.

But for humans, it is a time of crunchy leaves blowing in the door – and having cats bring them to us to be praised as might heroes for bring us presents. They’re always so proud when they bring us a leaf they’ve conquered!

Whether the cats – or the humans – are ready or not, Halloween is coming. What’s your favorite Halloween themed movie or book? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at our usual giveaway prize, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or $10 in books.

Howloween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howloween Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It! &  The Mommy Island

Are Halloween decorations starting to go up in your neighborhood? Or are they already here? One of our neighbors seems to have hired a service to set theirs up. Which was an interesting thing to watch.

As we have discovered during the two normal years we’ve been in this house – last year was certainly nothing like normal! – we don’t get many trick-or-treaters because we live on a cul-de-sac. We’ll still have candy but don’t expect many takers. Although we’ve heard that the through streets in the subdivision get deluged.

We do have our own living Halloween decoration in Lucifer, but he doesn’t pose in the windows to make the house look seasonally appropriate. But he’s always lurking!

But speaking of Halloween decorations, and waiting for trick-or-treaters, here’s your chance to get a little something to put up, to give out, or to read to put yourself among the holiday spirits.

Meowloween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Meowloween Giveaway Hop,  hosted by The Mommy Island & The Kids Did It!

I see the image for this hop every night. Those eyes are just like my Lucifer’s, and I get that slitty-eyed “stupid human” look every night right before he plops down between me and my book and starts to purr. He is the sweetest demon in the whole world. Just look at the face in the picture below. That’s my baby!

Our Lucifer is also a very lucky demon. He was rescued from living “rough” by a friend who couldn’t keep him, but we could. So he came to us when he was 6 years old, and he tells us just how grateful he is every night. Also, unlike many former ferals, he has zero desire to go outdoors. He doesn’t even approach the doors. Clearly he’s been there and done that and has no desire to do it again. And we’re all happy about that!

But Lucifer’s presence in our house is a living, breathing Halloween decoration. (So is Hecate, a mostly black tortoiseshell cat.) We regularly see both of them in that arched back position so common in Halloween decorations.

What about you? Do you decorate your house for Halloween? Or drive around seeing what the neighbors have put up? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at my usual giveaway, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a book, up to $10, from the Book Depository

Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

Fall is finally Fell here in Atlanta, so it’s actually beginning to feel like it’s time for Halloween and all things pumpkin.

But about those trick-or-treaters…

This time last year, we were looking towards our first Halloween in a new house, and had no idea how many trick-or-treaters would be coming to our door. The neighbors gave estimates of anywhere from less than 30 to a couple hundred – which is a pretty broad range to work with!

It turned out to be closer to 30 – if that. We live in a cul-de-sac, and, apparently, the local custom is to drive kids to the houses. Cul-de-sacs aren’t popular under those conditions.

We were fortunate – VERY – that the neighborhood took up a collection of leftover Halloween candy to give away elsewhere. We really didn’t care where elsewhere was, as long as it was away from us – but I know it went somewhere charitable I just don’t remember where. Now that neither of us works in an actual office, we didn’t have a “work crowd” to absorb the excess – of which there was a lot.

This year we’ll get treats for 30 and turn off the lights in front IF we run out. Unless conditions have changed a LOT from one year to the next, we don’t expect to.

What about where you are? Do you get lots of trick or treaters? Or just a trickle? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository!

Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

It’s that time of year. Actually it feels like several “that” time of year. It is now the Pumpkin Spice time of year. And the Halloween candy in the store time of year – although I believe that anyone buying Halloween candy this early is buying it for themselves and not the trick-or-treaters!

It is theoretically fall, although that’s always a bit dubious here in Atlanta. It’s still in the 80s. In some neighborhoods its the season for Halloween decorating on the front lawn, although this neighborhood, not so much.

It’s also the time of year when I dip into the virtually towering TBR pile to pull one, well, let’s call it horror-adjacent book to read for Halloween. Horror is not my jam, but I do try to get into the spirit of the thing.

We’re in a new neighborhood again this year, so we’ll see how many trick-or-treaters ring our doorbell this time. There seem to be lots of kids around here, so we’re expecting a bunch!

But you might want to stay in with a good book this Halloween – or get a little bit of help buying that Halloween candy. Fill out the rafflecopter for a chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository.

Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop (formerly known as Bugs & Hisses ), hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

Last year’s graphic was an adorably cute little spider. This year, it looks like we’ve been attacked by werewolves. Or Wolverine.

But it’s that time of year. Time when strange slumped figures magically appear on neighbors’ lawns, spilling straw from every makeshift orifice. One of our neighbors populates their lawn with inflatable dragons for Halloween!

It occasionally feels like Fall, even here in Atlanta, and Halloween candy has begun to magically appear in the grocery stores. We’re moving the weekend before Halloween, and have no idea whether our new neighborhood is populated with Trick-or-Treaters. Guess we’ll find out in a  few weeks!

Speaking of population, I’d like to help you populate your bookshelves with a good book. Or help you fill another shelf with a little something with an Amazon Gift Card.
