It is not supposed to rain here in Atlanta today. However, it was raining buckets on Sunday when I prepped this post. I mean like a monsoon or something. Complete with a few thunderboomers and probably a bit of lightning to go with. A perfect day to stay inside – not that that isn’t what we’re supposed to be doing anyway. (I still can’t make up my mind whether the #stayathome order is easier to tolerate when we wouldn’t be going out anyway, or easier to tolerate when there’s plenty of sun coming in through the windows.)

Whichever it is, this is an April, and a spring, that we’ll all remember. Whether or not the May flowers that this year’s April showers bring all turn out to be like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors.

In the meantime, we’re all home and need things to do and books to read. And that’s where my part in this blog hop comes in. When I was a little girl, my grandmother taught me the rhyme, “Rain, rain go away! Come back another day.” I’m still kind of expecting the rain to answer back, “But I did. I did!” I’ve often looked for a cartoon that did this, but I haven’t found one. At least not yet.

There’s also a riddle about rain that I’m a little bit too fond of.

“If April Showers bring May Flowers, then what do May Flowers bring?”

The answer, of course, is pilgrims. I can’t believe I actually managed to catch someone with this the other day. Everything old is new again. Except the rain. Even when we need it, days and days of rain just plain get old.

Today is my birthday. I am participating in this hop as part of my annual Blogo-Birthday celebration. Yesterday was the sixth anniversary of the founding of Reading Reality and today is my birthday, so, “blogo-birthday”!

You might also call this a hobbit birthday. It’s my birthday and instead of (or in addition to) receiving presents I am also giving presents all week long. Including today.

It’s April, and as I write this, it is raining cats and dogs here in Atlanta, although so far I haven’t seen any poodles in the road. Maybe later.

My grandmother has been gone a long time now, but I still remember those childhood Saturdays with her. She always made me chicken soup, and I loved the “drowned chicken” from the soup pot. To this day, I still love chicken drumsticks because of those Saturdays.

There’s also a more recent April showers rhyme. In school, they used to tell us that “April showers bring May flowers.”

But the version I remember is: “If April showers bring May flowers, then what do May flowers bring?”

The answer, of course, is “Pilgrims”.
