Christmas in July Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Christmas in July Giveaway Hop, hosted by Review Wire Media!

There’s a saying about cats, that they want to be in when they’re out, out when they’re in, and vice versa, AND simultaneously. Humans are like that about the weather.

When it’s cold we want it to be hot. When it’s hot we want it to be cool. And sorta/kinda both, which is how Christmas in July came about. The weather is warm, the nostalgia about the holiday is cool – and the Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments for the year arrive around July 25.

Christmas in July is far, far, FAR from a serious event, but ANY excuse to give and receive presents is a good one. So, what sort of tchotchkes would you like to receive in your Xmas in July stocking? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book to put inside that stocking!

From a certain perspective, Christmas in July, usually celebrated on July 25, is a true “Hallmark Holiday”. July 25th or thereabouts is when the annual Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments arrive in stores. On the other hand, the holiday is a bit of irony – not that the concept of “Hallmark Holidays” isn’t itself a bit ironic – as the weather in the Northern Hemisphere in July feels a lot more like the weather in the Southern Hemisphere on the date of the actual holiday!

Santa must get awfully warm in that suit if he shows up for a Christmas in July event!

Christmas in July may not exactly be a serious event, but an excuse to give and receive presents is always welcome. What would you like to receive in your Xmas in July stocking? Answer in the rafflecopter for your chance at a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book to put inside that stocking!

Christmas in July Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Christmas in July Giveaway Hop this week, this time hosted by Review Wire Media and Chatty Patty’s Place!

According to Wikipedia, “In the Northern Hemisphere, a Christmas in July celebration is deliberately ironic.” I can certainly see that, especially since Christmas in July is also literally a Hallmark holiday as the channel runs blocks of their winter Christmas programming in July to coincide with the release of coming holiday’s Keepsake Ornaments. Yes, it IS a racket if you think about it even a little.

Not that the ornaments aren’t adorable. I know that if I had a tree I’d have a huge collection of the Star Trek themed ornaments by now.

What do you think of the idea of “Christmas in July”? Answer for your chance at a little bit of hot holiday cheer, the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or $10 in books.

Christmas in July Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Christmas in July Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

What do you think of the whole Xmas in July idea? I don’t celebrate Xmas, so to me the whole idea of doing it in July too feels rather blatantly commercial. Potentially a whole lot of fun, but if there’s any holiday that feels like a “Hallmark holiday” instead of a real one, this is probably it.  That Amazon has ganged onto for their Prime Day in July promotions just adds to that impression.

Although there is something ironic – at least here in the Northern Hemisphere – about celebrating a holiday that is normally accompanied by chilly weather and even snow at a time of the year when we’re more likely to be getting record-setting high temperatures than even a cool breeze.

Still, any chance to give or get presents is probably a good one. Hence this giveaway hop, and my usual rafflecopter giveaway of the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Certificate or a $10 Book from the Book Depository. This giveaway is open to anywhere the Book Depository ships.
